Rali’s Reading Review: Ники Шийнън – “Goodnight, Boy”

Nikki-Sheehan

“Goodnight, Boy” is a very unique and heart-warming story about a boy who has been locked up in a kennel at the bottom of the garden along with his dog, called Boy, by his adoptive father while his adoptive mother is away. It is written in two different styles and periods of the boy’s life. This first is written in a normal format with dialogue and paragraphing.  This is the past of the boy and how he has come to be locked up. The other, is the present and how he is living in the kennel. The style is very strange – some pages have five or six sentences, whereas others have as little as one word. I quite enjoyed the unique writing style, however I didn’t feel like there was a very exiting story and wasn’t really as page-turner from me. It was still quite a good book which I enjoyed and read quickly.
